Question: What are the deadlines for my region?
Answer: Please click here for a PDF copy of this FAQ with the deadlines for all regions.

Question: What is the deadline?
Answer: Deadlines range from late October 2007 through late January 2008. Students and teachers can determine regional deadlines and region-specific guidelines by registering at www.artandwriting.org. A list of deadlines for each region is also posted on the Web site.

Question: What information will I need in order to register?
Answer: The following information is required:

Parent Name
Student Address
Grade
Age
Student Email
Parent Email
Home Telephone
School Name
School Address
School Phone
Teacher Name
Teacher Email

Question: My region has a quota limit on the number of submissions per student, teacher or school. How does this affect how I submit my work?
Answer: All students must submit their artwork through a teacher. If students or teachers have questions regarding regional quotas contact the Region Affiliate office which administers The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in your area.

Question: What is a community based organization?
Answer: A community based art organization is an institution, usually nonprofit, that offers students after school arts instruction.

Question: Should I register under my school or community based organization?
Answer: If a student is creating artwork in an after school or weekend program, we encourage them to register under the community based organization

Question: How do I know if my artwork/writing was received?
Answer: Because of the high volume of art and writing delivered and mailed to the Regional Affiliates, we are unable to confirm receipt of your submission. I you are delivering your artwork in person ask for a receipt. If you are mailing your work we suggest using the confirmation of delivery option offered by UPS, FedEx, or USPS.

Question: I forgot my password. I forgot my registered email. How can I access my account?
Answer: There are links for retrieving your password and/or email on The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards login screen. Once your password is emailed to you, login and look for the "change password" link in the upper right hand corner of the dashboard.

Question: What Web browsers support Online Registration?
Answer: Internet Explorer 5.0 - 6.0

Question: My school has a firewall that keeps me from accessing your Web site. How do I get around it?
Answer: Consult with your school's technology department/ computer lab staff.

Question: Where can I get access to the Web, other than school?
Answer: If you do not internet access to the internet at school or at home, try one of the following:
Libraries (School/Public/Universities)
Community Centers (YMCA/YWCA/Boys' Club/ Girls' Club)
Local Art Councils (contact for availability)
Colleges/Universities (contact for availability)
Internet Cafes (usually with a fee)
Book Stores

Question: Is email required to participate in The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards?
Answer: Email is required for both students and teachers participating in The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2008

Question: I don't currently use email. How do I get an email?
Answer: There are several free email providers including: www.gmail.com, www.yahoo.com, and www.hotmail.com. Please visit these sites and set up a free email account before registering.

Question: My child/student is under the age of 13. Can s/he still participate?
Answer: Yes. But because of the Children's Online Protection Act, students 12 years of age and younger must register using a paper form instead of the online option.

Question: What if I, as a parent, am not comfortable with my child having an email account?
Answer: An email account is required for all students and teachers participating in The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. We suggest parents create an email specifically for The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, if they are uncomfortable with their child having an email account.
